Sedation Dentistry

Sedation dentistry helps a patient relax and remain calm during a dental procedure. If receiving a complex dental treatment such as a root canal, extraction, or oral surgery fills you with anxiety, then receiving a sedative before your procedure could be a good idea. Sedation can allow you to have a procedure without the recollection of the time it took, the pain, the noise, or the discomfort you were fearing.

At 30A Smiles, we offer sedation in the form of laughing gas, oral conscious sedation, and IV sedation. We provide three types of sedation so we can accommodate all of our patient’s needs. Each type is administered differently and comes at varying levels of strength. Our dentists will assess your needs to decide what form and strength will be appropriate for you.

Both Dr. Fleitz and Dr. Hoppe completed rigorous sedation training and earned conscious sedation permits from the state of Florida so you can be confident that our sedatives at 30A Smiles are safe and regulated. Our awesome team will walk you through how the sedative works, listen to and address your concerns, and answer any questions you may have. We can ensure you that your experience at our Inlet Beach office will be thorough and inviting.

Benefits of Sedation Dentistry

Reduced Anxiety

The top benefit of sedation dentistry is its ability to prevent anxiety before the procedure and during the procedure. So, if you have been delaying important treatment due to a phobia or anxiety, you can now ease those fears by receiving a sedative before the procedure. You can trust our team to take good care of you and counsel you on everything you need to or would like to know.

Less to No Gagging

Gagging is a common reflex at the dentist; however, when a patient is under a sedative, they are able to completely relax and not worry about gagging or reacting to what the dentist is doing. Gagging during a procedure can sometimes cause pain to the patient and increase their anxiety. With the absence of gagging, the dentist is able to easily complete the work and finish on time.

Peace of Mind

Sedation makes it possible for you to receive treatment without the recollection of the time it took, the pain, the noise, or the discomfort you were expecting. If you have a phobia of the dentist, a sedative could provide you with great relief. So ease your fears and let our friendly, superb team make you feel comfortable, and answer any questions you might have before and after the procedure.

Dental Sedation Options at 30A Smiles

Laughing Gas – Mild

Administered via inhalation, nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, is the preferred method for easing mild to moderate anxiety and allows for a quick recovery.

Oral Conscious Sedation – Moderate

Administered by mouth typically in the form of a pill, this sedative choice is taken before your appointment to ensure you are fully relaxed by the time of the procedure.

IV Sedation – Moderate

Administered via IV, this sedative form will place you in a deeper state of relaxation leaving you with little or no memory of the procedure.

Eliminating Your Fear of the Dentist

Having a phobia of the dentist, or dentophobia, is very common, with 36% of Americans suffering from it. This phobia causes individuals to feel anxiety at the thought of visiting the dentist and/or being at the dentist.

At 30A Smiles, there is no need to be afraid of the dentist. Our staff is incredibly kind, and professional, and will take great care of your needs. Both Dr. Fleitz and Dr. Hoppe completed rigorous sedation training and earned conscious sedation permits from the state of Florida meaning our sedation treatments are safe and regulated. You can be confident that our team will always be respectful and cautious of your needs and concerns.

I had an older crown fall out while vacationing along 30A, and had to scramble to find a good Dentist locally. I selected 30A Smiles based on their reviews, and it was a great choice! I was able to get a quick appointment by a friendly person on the phone, and once in the office Taryn & Dr Skinner were marvelous! A great team, they answered all my questions, and I felt very comfortable in their care. I ended up getting a fully new crown all done that same day. Great experience and highly recommended Dental practice!

While on vacation I tripped and chipped my front tooth. I contacted 30A Smilies and they got me right in on the same day. Everyone in the office was very pleasant. They made me feel very comfortable and at ease. If I could rate the experience a 10 I would. Thank You All!
