Compared to bulky metal braces, clear braces are very comfortable for patients. Traditional wires and brackets often agitate the patient and can make eating extremely difficult. With clear aligners, a patient can remove them while eating so they don’t have to worry about food getting stuck or not being able to eat more hazardous items like popcorn.
Discretion
Invisalign Clear Aligners are an excellent choice for patients who want discretion when it comes to their dental care. Clear braces are not easily visible or distracting like traditional metal braces. This makes them a good alternative for older adults who may need braces to correct their smile but would like to not feel like they are in middle school again.
How Do Invisalign Clear Braces Work?
The first step in receiving clear braces is to visit with your dentist. If you have been seeing them regularly, they will probably have discussed receiving braces with you before. When they determine your teeth are ready, they will conduct an impression of your mouth. This 3D impression will be used to create your clear aligners.
Once the impression is ready, your dentist will bring you in and ensure it fits properly and is comfortable. From there, patients receiving Invisalign treatment will visit our office every six weeks for a check-up to ensure that the is treatment is progessing as planned. The average treatment time is nine-15 months, but can be longer or shorter depending on the patient’s dental situation. Throughout the treatment, patients will have an average of 18-30 different clear aligners, changing them out about every two weeks.
Once your doctor determines the final results have been achieved, you will no longer have to wear the clear aligners. From there, your doctor will likely provide you with retainers that are to be worn to maintain all the progress your teeth have made.
