Dental sealants are made of plastic resins that bond and harden to the grooves on your tooth. Once sealed, the grooves become smoother, easier to brush, and less likely to harbor plaque. Sealants can last from three to five years, and are most commonly used on children who already have their permanent teeth. This is done to prevent tooth decay while the child is still learning how to brush correctly and take care of their oral health.
